I was born in Rothbury below the Simonside Hills and apart from a brief spell living in Northamptonshire I have lived all my life in Northumberland. I am a proud Northumbrian, not just because of its natural beauty but also its people and history. My branding echoes the colours of Northumberland’s beaches, sunrises, sunsets and heather. The red kites although very rarely sighted in Northumberland represent my time in Northamptonshire, during Covid, and away from my family and home county. I spent hours watching them soar above the countryside and to me they represented freedom.
About me
I had a happy childhood spent outdoors playing in the woods and fields and at weekends walking with my Dad. He taught me about the trees, birds, seasons and everything he knew about nature he passed on to me. He was and continues to be my role model.
Life hasn’t all been happy. I have been divorced twice and yes, I had to kiss a lot of princes until I found my soulmate. This came with an introduction to a blended family. With four children between us there were challenges along the way but I have learned many things from this experience including resilience, negotiation, constructive challenge and setting boundaries.
Infertility dominated my life from my mid-20’s and at times it was a dark place to be. I channelled my emotions into supporting others in the same position and ran a successful support group in the North East. On my third IVF attempt I was fortunate to have twins, a daughter and son.
Throughout all my difficulties I have found solace and inspiration in the countryside. Walking along the beach or through the woods gave me the time and space to think, rationalise my thoughts and reset my emotions. When I talk to people about coaching outdoors, they comment on how visible my passion for this work is.
I have held senior positions in the public sector and have a background in HR and learning and development. I have facilitated women’s development workshops for many years and understand the issues and barriers that women face. I have coached for many years through my HR work and as a self-employed coach.
I swim regularly in the sea, enjoy hiking in the Northumberland hills and spend a lot of time at my allotment.
I have an ILM Level 7 qualification in Executive Coaching and Mentoring and I am a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development.
I am committed to my own continuous professional development and have undertaken specific training in coaching outdoors. I am a Professional Member of the EMCC and abide by the Global Code of Ethics. I am a Master Coach in NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) and qualified in Hypnosis and Time Line Therapy™. I undertake regular supervision for my coaching and also invest in my own coach.
I have an Emergency First Aid Certificate and I am a Mental Health First Aider.
